Awarded to a novice writer under the age of 35 for a literary work which includes Ukrainian Canadian characters or is based on a Ukrainian Canadian theme. Eligible works of literary fiction, that being poetry, short stories, novels, plays, personal essays or memoirs are acceptable. Only one submission is allowed per applicant, and must not exceed 5000 words.
The award will be granted for English-language and Ukrainian-language submissions in alternating years. For example, in odd-numbered years (i.e., 2013) the award will be for an English-language work. In even-numbered years the award will be for a Ukrainian language work.
